Spirometry and bronchodilator responsiveness in wheezing preschool children

چکیده
Methods We carried out a retrospective analysis of incentive spirometry tests in recurrent wheezing children, aged 2-5 years, from our center, performed between September 2012 and March 2014. Lung function was assessed before and after 400 mg of inhaled salbutamol using a Jaeger spirometer v.4.65 (CareFusion). Wheezing symptoms, parental asthma, prematurity, passive smoking exposure, atopy and controller medication use were evaluated. Categorical frequency analysis and non-parametric tests were used.

Bronchodilator responsiveness using spirometry in healthy and asthmatic preschool children.
OBJECTIVE To assess repeatability and reproducibility of spirometry measurements, and bronchodilator responsiveness (BDR), in healthy 3-6-year-old preschool children and those with asthma. DESIGN Spirometry was performed before and 20 minutes after administering either inhaled placebo (for repeatability) or 400 μg salbutamol (for BDR) on two separate occasions (reproducibility) 3-23 days apar...
متن کاملThe bronchodilator response in preschool children: A systematic review.
BACKGROUND The bronchodilator response (BDR) is frequently used to support diagnostic and therapeutic decision-making for children who wheeze. However, there is little evidence-based guidance describing the role of BDR testing in preschool children and it is unclear whether published cut-off values, which are derived from adult data, can be applied to this population. METHODS We searched MEDL...
متن کاملPreschool spirometry in clinical practice
Introduction: Spirometry is essential for evaluating asthmatic patients, and it is possible to perform it in preschool age children. However, there are no studies that demonstrate spirometry and bronchodilator test (BD) differences in asthmatic children and those with other clinical conditions, such as nonatopic recurrent wheezing (NRW) and chronic cough. Aim: To compare spirometry parameters i...
متن کاملMethacholine bronchial provocation measured by spirometry versus wheeze detection in preschool children
BACKGROUND Determination of PC20-FEV1 during Methacholine bronchial provocation test (MCT) is considered to be impossible in preschool children, as it requires repetitive spirometry sets. The aim of this study was to assess the feasibility of determining PC20-FEV1 in preschool age children and compares the results to the wheeze detection (PCW) method. METHODS 55 preschool children (ages 2.8-6...
متن کاملValidity of Spirometry for Diagnosis of Cough Variant Asthma
Background Cough variant asthma (CVA) is a chronic or recurrent cough without wheezing accompanied by bronchial hyper-responsiveness and eosinophilic inflammation of the airways. This study aimed to evaluate the validity of spirometry in the diagnosis of CVA, as well as determining the specificity and sensitivity of spirometry parameters in CVA. Materials and Methods This descriptive observat...
